Echanges transatlantiques entre les étudiants French Heritage à New York, et un Lycée de l'Académie de Montpellier

Deux projets pédagogiques originaux intitulés "Identité et diversité" ont été élaborés par des enseignants de New York et de Beaucaire, dans l'Académie de Montpellier, et sont mis en oeuvre en parallèle dans les deux classes des deux côtés de l'Atlantique. Il s'agit du premier échanges pédagogique transatlantique impliquant la participation d'élèves du French Heritage Language Program (FHLP) à New York et ayant recours à la plateforme Mytransatlanticschool.net.

We need teachers!

French-English bilingual programs in New York City’s public schools are growing. The programs were developed not only to serve the French families who had initiated after-school programs, but also to meet the needs of a growing number of diverse Francophone immigrant children who are emergent bilinguals, better known as English Language Learners. Also, more and more non-French-speaking families are signing up for these high quality programs.

Road Map to Create a Dual-Language Program

These programs were largely created as a result of the efforts of parents who put up websites, canvassed the neighborhood and worked with Principals to get the project off the ground. In the words of Virgil de Voldère who helped create a French-English dual-language program, parents should realize that "they really can make a difference, they can organize, they can propose, and they have a right to have their heritage and their language spoken in schools."
